Quitting seems to be easy in our culture. You can quit your job, quit your marriage, quit your church, quit fighting injustice, quit managing your health, quit voting, and simply get used to the norm of quitting. Life gets hard sometimes and quitting may seem like the only option. Or maybe you haven’t literally quit yet, but mentally and emotionally you have checked out and are simply going through the emotions.
If you have ever thought about quitting (which is the majority of us!) or you have given up in any area of your life, I recommend 5 Habits of a Woman Who Doesn’t Quit by Nicki Koziarz.
In her book, Nicki shares personal stories of her own habit of quitting. With humor and honesty, she challenges herself and us to develop habits that develop our character and commitment to stay the course. Nicki shares scripture and quotes that make the book thought provoking, practical and an easy read.
Here are the 5 habits she recommends, with a quote from Nicki and a scripture she shares:
- Accept the assignment of refinement.
“Opposition is always an opportunity for God to reveal Himself.”
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts and your ways are not My ways.” This is the Lord’s declaration. Isaiah 55:8
- Follow through with your commitments despite how you feel.
“Momentary feelings will always try to convince us to forfeit our faithfulness.”
“All bitterness, anger and wrath, shouting and slander must be removed from you, along with all malice. And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.” Ephesians 4:31-32
- Stay open to the movement of God.
“Surrender and humility hold hands when we are staying open to the movement of God in our lives.”
“Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will exalt you.” James 4:10
- Give others what you need.
“Emotional generosity is one of the hardest forms of kindness to give.”
“Remember this: The person who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly and the person who sows generously will also reap generously. And God is able to make every grace overflow to you, so that in every way, always having everything you need, you may excel in every good work.” 2 Corinthians 9:6&8
- Move forward in faith.
“The perseverance of our faith holds the mystery of mercy that to do less is to be more.”
“So we must not get tired of doing good, for we will reap at the proper time if we don’t give up.” Galatians 6:9Opposition is always an opportunity for God to reveal Himself. I pray you don’t quit. Your life, your faith, and your commitment matter. We are in this race together, and I pray you run all the way and finish strong. Read Nicki’s book and be encouraged to not quit but to reframe your life and life circumstances in light of our God, our faith, and eternity.
