Wounded leaders wound. Wounded leaders hurt the people around them the most. For many of our listeners and those that engaged with me, when there is a wounded leader, you know it.
I do acknowledge the reality that things happen to people that wound them. They do. You can’t deny it, you can’t make that go away, but what I want to stress as a leader is you need to heal, you need to walk toward the healing process of those wounds, because if not, it will absolutely take you down first.
One of the big things in counseling with people that are hurting or wounded is when they realize that they’re hurting the people they love the most. That’s a wake-up call, because no one wants to hurt the people they love the most. When they realize their wounds are affecting the people closest to them that they love the most, that usually is a motivator to say, “I’m going to get the help that I need.” That starts the process of healing. We know it’s a spiritual aspect to that healing process where you let go and let God heal, but it’s also a counseling process where you walk it out. It’s not an immediate thing.
