Everyone has a story. One of the things Rodney and I do in our marriage ministry is ask couples to share their stories. How did they meet? When did they fall in love? How was the “will you marry me?” question asked?
Sometimes in the hectic pace of life, we need to stop and remember. When we do, our stories have the power to rekindle energy and passion in our lives. Here’s a snapshot of our story: It was summertime on the farm, and the porch swing felt great on that warm Sunday evening. Swinging, talking, and sipping iced tea … we had so many dreams for the future. We think God must have smiled that night because He knew we didn’t have a clue. His Spirit began to draw us to each other, and 13 months later, we became partners for life at a wedding in the same country church where we received our calling into full-time ministry.
What a journey we’ve had! I think God still smiles because He knows we don’t have a clue. We still talk for hours (and we still love that sweet Southern tea). We still dream some pretty big dreams, too, but God “is able to do above and beyond all that we ask or think — according to the power that works in us” (Ephesians 3:20 HCSB).
Thirty-eight years, two daughters, and many life experiences later, I find my life intersecting with yours through the blog, another part of my adventure with God. I’m amazed and excited to join you in learning together how to build strong, dynamic, healthy, Christ-centered homes.
I’d love to hear your story, too! Share how God brought you and your spouse together in the comments below.
