We live in an information and knowledge age. We are constantly “on” with information coming at us from sources around the world. News, research, the latest business journals, books, audio books, articles, podcasts, blogs, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and on and on it goes.
God has put us in the age we are in. It is part of His plans. It requires wisdom to know how to grow, learn, and engage without spinning into overload, burning out, or having our heads down learning while we miss God and we lose perspective on what is happening around us.
We need help. We need an anchor, an advisor, a counselor, and wisdom to know how to make sense of all that is coming at us. And there’s only one place to find it.
Here are 3 reasons you need to start every day in God’s Word and in prayer:
1. We need daily wisdom and knowledge.
No matter how much knowledge you pursue and how much information you devour, it will never be adequate alone to give you wisdom and direction. Good but never good enough. Your daily time in scripture and in prayer will remind you of the riches of God’s wisdom and knowledge and help you discern all other sources of information. Jesus. He is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6).

2. We need daily counsel and guidance.
Everyday we face the unpredictable. The interruption that comes early that rearranges our day. Or the problem or challenge that wasn’t on our to do list. Or the new idea that seems right but we aren’t sure. We try hard to get the calendar under control, make solid plans with systems and processes in place to ensure positive outcomes but we often come up short. Wouldn’t you like to have a wise counselor right beside you helping you make the right decisions? Well that is exactly what God has given us in the Holy Spirit. We need to spend time with God to allow His Spirit to give us counsel, guidance, and advise for daily living.
“But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit — the Father will send Him in My name — will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have told you.” John 14:26
3. We need to be reminded of the danger of pride.
We need a daily dose of submission. Of humility. God’s Word reminds us of God’s holiness, of our sin, and of the unmerited salvation of Christ. Grace. Mercy. It is so easy to make everything about us. We can be easily offended and become envious of others. We can get easily puffed up or prideful over successes. And we can become easily discouraged, anxious, or fearful over our mistakes and failures. The truth is we will never be good enough or sufficient enough. We aren’t the main character in the story of life. A daily time in God’s Word reminds us of the price paid for our salvation and causes us to worship in humble submission to Him.

There are so many more reasons for you to spend time in prayer and in God’s Word regularly. Your team, your family, and your church desperately need you to lead with God and His Word as your constant source of guidance and wisdom.
