Since 1894, Labor Day has been a national holiday in America in celebration of the contribution workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well being of the country.
But long before this national holiday, we were designed by God to work. Here are a few verses that remind us of the gift, blessing, and responsibility of work. Spend time today thanking God for the work He has called and blessed you to do.
“The Lord God took the man and placed him in the garden of Eden to work it and watch over it.”
Genesis 2:15 HCSB
“A man will be satisfied with good by the words of his mouth, and the work of a man’s hands will reward him.”
Proverbs 12:14 HCSB
“Jesus replied, ‘This is the work of God – that you believe in the One He has sent.'”
John 6:29 HCSB
“Let the favor of the Lord our God be on us; establish for us the work of our hands — establish the work of our hands!”
Psalms 90:17 HCSB
“The one who works his land will have plenty of food, but whoever chases fantasies lacks sense.”
Proverbs 12:11 HCSB
“There is profit in all hard work, but endless talk leads only to poverty.”
Proverbs 14:23 HCSB
“But if anyone does not provide for his own, that is his own household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.”
1 Timothy 5:8 HCSB
“Commit your activities to the Lord, and your plans will be achieved.”
Proverbs 16:3 HCSB
I hope you have a fun day celebrating with friends and family!
