As part of our Summer Leadership Development series, each Monday through mid-August I’ll overview a recommended book for the summer season of your leadership. This is a great time to think, assess, focus on your development, and challenge your faith. And each Wednesday on my podcast Selma on Leadership, we’ll talk personally about the book’s impact on your life and leadership.
This week’s book is a New York Times bestseller by Priscilla Shirer, Fervent: A Woman’s Battle Plan to Serious, Specific and Strategic Prayer (although I would argue that this book isn’t just for women!). This book was inspired by the feature film WarRoom.
How seriously do you pray?
Is it a quick prayer on the run or maybe a desperate one on the way to solve a crisis? I have done both! But what happens when we make prayer an intentional part of our life? It is past time and the right time for us to revisit the reason for prayer and the critical need to develop a prayer strategy. If you are ready, this book by Priscilla Shirer is the right book for you to read this summer. In fact, I recommend it as your devotional (the book is packed full of scripture) focus for the summer months. Read it and then set some new plans for your prayer life.Fervent by @PriscillaShirer is the right book for you to read this summer! Read why: Click To Tweet
Here are 10 reasons we need to take our prayer life more seriously:
- Keeps our passion.
- Keeps our focus.
- Helps us remember our identity in Christ.
- Protects the unity of our family.
- Strengthens our confidence as God’s children.
- Solidifies our calling.
- Reminds us to guard well our character and integrity.
- Challenges us to live in contentment and rest.
- Heals our hearts from the wounds and pain of others.
- Helps us fight for unity in all our relationships.
Priscilla reminds us of the reality of a spiritual battle that shows up in our lives daily that can rob us of the joy and peace of living in relationship with our Father. I hope and pray this book would get us battle ready as leaders of faith so we live and lead differently.
“You are from God, little children, and you have conquered them, because the One who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.” – 1 John 4:4
