Pay attention to the words you use. If you really want to get serious about it, ask your team to give you input in the words you are using and how you can get better at them.
As leaders, pay attention to your words. Don’t be casual with the words that you speak. You have the power to speak life into your team. You also have the power to speak death into your team. You want to be a life-giving force. When you do mess up, because you will, be ready to step up and ask for forgiveness.
I remember saying to me and my team, ‘The greatest thing you can give this organization is your own walk with God, for you to hear from God. For you to be in the word and speak that into us as an organization.’ We know that ultimately, this is where we get our direction, our compass for living. Learning to make that a regular part of your leadership conversation can be powerful.
