“Failure causes emotion. You, as a leader, cannot lead with emotion. In a time of failure your team needs you to be a confident leader. You need to look at your team and say, ‘We will solve this problem. We will get through this challenge.’ They need to hear that from you first.”
“One of the other huge, huge things in failure is you have an opportunity as a leader to reinvent yourself. Sometimes as a leader, the best thing you can do is stand before your team and say, ‘I’m sorry. I blew it.’ This is you owning the failure, not … It’s you saying, ‘I made a mistake.’ Maybe the mistake you made is you overreacted. Whatever it is, the opportunity you have to reinvent yourself, to take the lessons that you’ve learned in failure to make you more graceful to others.”
